leadership development
To promote lifelong learning, nursing leaders have participated in formal education and continuing education programs through our online resources library that can be accessed from any computer on the Tenet network. Since 2006 Tenet has provided more than 1 million hours of continuing education to its nursing and allied health workforce.
In 2007 we developed a series of basic finance seminars that were taught via webinars. These seminars helped our frontline nurse leaders develop necessary financial skills so that they could present themselves to senior management as articulate financial managers. The five-part series included a review of basic financial terms, becoming familiar with reading the department profit and loss statement and learning how to identify and articulate variances in the monthly financial statements. The program was followed up in 2008 with an advanced series of classes targeted to the non-nursing frontline management workforce. In total, 400 frontline managers (nursing and non-nursing) have completed the financial training courses.
