Dr. Trepanier to Present at the International Nursing Administration Research Conference (INARC)
Sylvain Trepanier, DNP, RN, CENP was recently invited to present at the International Nursing Administration Research Conference (INARC) in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Trepanier will present the results of a study conducted with Drs. Early, Ulrich and Cherry.
New Graduate Registered Nurses (NGRNs) and nursing leaders have identified that NGRNs are ill prepared to meet the demands of today’s healthcare expectations. A nursing residency program offers a solution to both newly licensed nurses and nursing leaders. Since a nursing residency is viewed as a costly endeavor, a cost-benefit analysis of a nursing residency program was preformed based on turnover rate and contract labor usage including 15 hospitals in seven states. The results suggest that a nursing residency program offered savings between $9.9 and $50 per-patient-day when compared to traditional methods of orientation. The conclusion is that a NGRN residency program offers a cost-effective innovative approach.
