Lake Pointe Medical Center recognized Laura Staggs, RN as a Daisy Award honoree
Lara Staggs, RN has been employed at Lake Pointe Medical Center (LPMC) since 2002. She worked on the medical floor when she came to LPMC then developed an interest in the care of wounds and skin integrity. She stepped out of her comfort zone and took on the development of the Lake Pointe Wound Care Center (LPWCC) clinical coordinator role and obtained additional training and knowledge in wounds and hyperbaric therapy. The center was recognized for 2 years during her tenure there as a Center of Distinction due to patient healing rates. After her time at the LPWCC, she decided to again bring her wound knowledge back to the surgical floor at LPMC where she currently is working under Jenny Humpal on the surgical unit. She is called upon to assist in looking at our patients with wounds and has become a resource and continues to refer patients to the LPWCC. She is an advocate not only for her patients but for LPMC.
Lara routinely receives recognition and comments from her patients. Some examples include:
“Lara cared for me for 2 days during my hospitalization and I found her to be very kind, professional, and knowledgeable. She assisted me with a difficult time in the hospital and resolved some issues with me in a timely manner. She continued to give me the same attention to my care the remainder of my stay.”
“Lara informed me of the outpatient care center that I would have never known about if she had not taken the time to tell me about it. She showed interest in me and my illnesses and goes above and beyond in everything she does for every patient”
Lara graduated from her bridge program for her BSN while working full time, single parenting, and caring for three high energy young men. It is nurses like Lara that continue to give LPMC excellence in nursing. She is passionate about her patients and providing outstanding care. She is truly an example of a LPMC DAISY nurse!
